Pushing the boundaries of what fans have come to expect from the most successful franchise in entertainment, Call of Duty: Black Ops II thrusts players into the near-future, 21st Century Cold War, where technology and weapons come together to create a new generation of warfare.
Set in a fictional near future, Call of Duty: Black Ops II Multiplayer modes will introduce players to the most cutting-edge weapons and gear of 2025.

NEW CREATE-A-CLASS: Create-A-Class has been redesigned to offer players a new “pick 10” delivery system, allowing for an unprecedented number of content combinations. Players no longer have to choose content from each category, but instead trade items from one category for extra items from another; combinations of any 10 items make almost anything possible.
Pick 10 System
Ten points and an almost unlimited number of combinations – each item is worth 1 point and you can spend your 10 points however you like. This encourages a higher level of customization based on your playstyle.
Wild Cards
Wild Cards are also worth 1 point each and allow players to “expand the system” and further configure their classes – you can choose multiple perks from a category, equip your primary weapon with 3 attachments, carry 2 lethals, and more.
NEW KILL STREAKS – Kill Streaks reward players for helping their team win – taking flags, defending a teammate with an Assault Shield, or assists are all examples of actions that help your team win and will earn you points. Each action has a different value and can impact the battlefield:
Microwave Turret – A high-powered microwave turret, used for crowd control, that emits an intense, concentrated burst of energy and is used to block shipping lanes.
Swarm: Hunter drones attack enemies and their equipment with a morale-sapping swarm.
Interactivity: Direct a Hellstorm missile and guide it along its path, or disperse a cluster of bombs to try to take out multiple enemies at once – the ultimate risk/reward scenario. Plus, take control of a VTOL aircraft and strafe the enemy from above.
Player or AI Controlled: Take control or let others take control for you. Operate the AGR (Autonomous Ground Robot), a drone that can fight for the player autonomously or under user control. Sentries work the same way.
Player Controlled – Harness the power of the MQ-27 Quadcopter Drone, a small aircraft with a light machine gun that can take out ground targets with surgical precision.
AI Controlled – A variety of weapons at your disposal. Call in a strafing run with an A10 and listen as the AI pilot maintains constant radio contact and reports on their progress. Blitzkrieg allows players to choose 3 target areas and send in an airstrike.
Super Weapons – Once you’ve gotten your hands on the War Machine, you’ll never want to use another grenade launcher again. The Death Machine returns, updated in 2025, giving players a personal Gatling gun that can tear through anything in its path.
UPGRADED WEAPONS, ATTACHMENTS AND GEAR – Near-future combat means improvements to the technology soldiers will use on the battlefield. Additionally, weapon perks are now included in attachments:
Assault Shield – Create and carry portable cover.
Target Seeker – Easily identify allies and enemies.
Millimeter Wave Scanner – New scope that reveals stationary targets through obstacles at short ranges.
Shock Charge – Non-lethal throwable device that shocks and stuns enemies who get close to it.
Laser Sight – Displayed on the weapon and seen by both the owner and other players. The possibilities of this advantage for the player who owns it are self-explanatory.
Pro Competitions – This has been a huge inspiration for the team and an interesting innovation in the multiplayer agenda. Call of Duty: Black Ops II introduces Leagues and a suite of built-in commentary tools that elevate the competitive spirit of Call of Duty to the level of a spectator sport.
LEAGUES – Competing is fun at any level, which is why Treyarch introduced Leagues, with skill-based matchmaking and seasonal ladders. Play a few games to determine your skill, and from there you’ll be placed in a division with players similar to you. Keep winning and you’ll rise through the ranks. By progressing consistently, you’ll rise through the ranks and into higher divisions. Skill-based matchmaking ensures you’re challenged, not outmatched. Leagues are for everyone.
CODmentary: A new type of dedicated spectator, the CODmentary provides colour to the game with commentary and covers every play on screen. The in-game CODmentary menu includes dedicated commentary tools like never before:
Picture-in-Picture (PIP): Displays a list of all players, their current scorestreak and status.
Map View – Shows both sides of the battle using a top-down view and simple 2D graphics.
Scoreboard – Similar to those seen in professional sports, this displays an overall report with team scores and objective data.
Nameplate – Similar to the name on a player’s jersey, this is used to easily identify the featured player.
Screen Options – The commentator can toggle portions of the HUD on and off (without affecting players) to maximize the experience.
Listen In – Listen to conversations between players to further experience the action in real-time.
LIVE STREAMING (IN DEVELOPMENT) – Additionally, Activision is proud to announce the development of an exciting live streaming feature that will make competitive gaming not only fun to play, but fun to watch as well. Once ready, Treyarch will enable a number of tools that will allow players to stream their gameplay from within the game. Requirements, rules, availability, and release date for this new feature will be announced at the appropriate time.
