While politics and lost swords are definitely a big part of it, there’s much more to this story. Yes, there’s a lot of intrigue and swordplay, but the narrative also focuses heavily on Henry’s personal journey and the lingering effects of his past trauma, violence, and thirst for revenge. His kill list seems to be constantly growing.

Dream sequences featuring his blacksmith father, Martin, offer a deeper understanding of the moral struggles and complex emotions Henry wrestles with. This adds significant depth and raises the stakes of his character arc, as he confronts his inner demons while his country faces invasion, occupation, and the looming threat of war.

Henry’s renewed partnership with Lord Hans Capon makes it easy to root for them. Their relationship, which began as a classic rich snob/peasant dynamic, has evolved beautifully. It now resembles a Merlin and King Arthur-esque bond, constantly changing and deepening. Tom McKay and Luke Dale deliver incredible performances, clearly relishing their roles. Their motion capture work perfectly captures the nuances of their friendship, from moments of worry and concern to playful bickering, in all the best ways.

The game also features a diverse group of nobles, lords, criminals, and people from various cultures who unite to oppose Sigismund’s rule and fight for Wenceslas‘ freedom. These characters transcend typical historical stereotypes, creating a compelling story grounded in history and filled with complex relationships.

When I wasn’t engaged with these characters, I spent countless hours exploring the historically recreated landscape of Bohemia. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 offers two maps, each packed with locations, side quests, and unique environments. The city of Kuttenberg is particularly impressive.

My first experience in Kuttenberg was overwhelming. I spent over an hour simply wandering the streets, exploring the buildings, alleys, markets, taverns, and the vibrant activity of its many businesses. Unlike typical video game cities with a single, clearly marked “blacksmith,” Kuttenberg feels like a real city. There are, for example, seven different smithies. Kingdom Come: Deliverance
